RV Repair

$7,000 → $600a month to handle customers, the owner says

An RV repair shop was missing half its calls. Now an AI front desk answers them all.

The owner built an AI to answer the phone and book repairs. He says his monthly cost of handling customers fell from $7,000 to $600.

The business

Boss Bull Mobile RV Services (Austin, Texas)

An RV repair business with a shop and mobile repair trucks. Rich Mahre owns it.

The problem

Most of his workers were out on repair jobs, so the phone often went unanswered. Office managers and answering services couldn't answer every call or handle repair questions.

Mahre estimated that half of the calls during business hours went to voicemail. Only 10 to 15 out of every 100 voicemails turned into a booked job. He also hadn't known how many calls he was missing at night, from people who worked late or broke down after hours.

The bot or tool

ServiceNomad, an AI "Digital Front Desk" he built

Mahre has a background in voice analytics. He built ServiceNomad to answer customer questions and book appointments, and he tried it on his own shop first. He now sells it, and 32 other RV companies use it, RVBusiness reports.

How they set it up

  1. The AI answers every call, gets the basic details and books the appointment.
  2. It sends appointment reminders and updates when parts are late.
  3. 90 to 120 days after a visit, it reaches out to customers again. For example, it might ask when they last had their water heater serviced.
  4. When an upset customer calls, it responds kindly first, then gets to the details.
  5. Anyone who wants a person can just ask, and the call rings through to staff. Mahre calls this the "Mom Feature," because if your mom calls, she gets a real person.

Service Intake Deserves as Much Attention as Repair Itself
